Rotator Cuff Injury
Published 10 September 2024
The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles and their tendons that surround the shoulder joint. Rotator cuff injuries range from mild tendinopathy (irritation and inflammation of the tendon) to partial or full-thickness tears.
Types of Rotator Cuff Injury
Injuries include rotator cuff tendinopathy, impingement syndrome, partial tears, and full-thickness tears. Each requires a different management approach, and accurate diagnosis is essential for effective treatment.
Treatment
Conservative physiotherapy management, including targeted rotator cuff strengthening, scapular stabilisation exercises, and manual therapy, is effective for the majority of rotator cuff injuries. Where surgery is required, we also provide post-operative rehabilitation programmes.
